THE ORIGINAL INCLUSIVE OUTRIGGER PADDLING TEAM FOR BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED ATHLETES - EST. 2006

The NAC/Makapo Outrigger Team is an inclusive outrigger paddling team for blind athletes and their sighted family and friends.  It competes in the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association (SCORA) and is a collaboration between the Newport Aquatic Center and Makapo Aquatics.  SCORA races are held from May to September, ending with the Catalina US Championships.   NAC/Makapo has also competed in other races in Hawaii and in New York.

Team members practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 PM till dark and Saturdays from 8:30 AM till around 10:30 AM.

 

For new paddlers interested in learning how to paddle, Makapo's Recreation Program is the perfect starting point.

Team members are required to pay team dues and also be members of the Newport Aquatic Center.
