Meet Altair Seat
Outrigger canoe paddling demands core stability. For paddlers with limited trunk control — whether from spinal cord injury, muscular conditions, paralysis, or other disabilities — maintaining the upright posture required to paddle an OC6 effectively and safely is a significant barrier. Standard canoe seating provides no lateral or lumbar support, leaving these paddlers without a viable way to participate

Uli1 is a foot-operated rudder adaptation that gives single-limb paddlers full bidirectional steering control using only the pedal available to them. Uli1 sets the rudder to turn fully toward the non-functional side — so pressing the available pedal steers one way, and releasing it steers the other. The full range of rudder rotation is accessible with one foot.

Uli1 also introduces a configurable self-centering default position, giving older canoes that lack this feature the ability to return the rudder to center automatically — a benefit for any paddler, adaptive or not.

While mastery of the traditional rudderless V1 canoe is one path forward, it represents a significant physical and cognitive barrier — even for experienced paddlers. For someone already managing the demands of single-limb paddling, that additional challenge can make participation effectively out of reach. Uli1 removes the barrier at the equipment level, so the paddler can focus on the water.
