About the event

Join our hosts New Hope Canoe Club and paddlers from Makapo Aquaics to discover outrigger paddling and learn how it is an ideal inclusive actiity for people who are blind or visually impaired.  Wakiki Suf Club is graciously hosting this event in an effort to spread the joy of paddling to a wider group of people.  Makapo Aaquatics, based in Newport Beach CA, fields of an inclusive team of blind and visually impaired paddlers who compete in races in the US and Hawaii.  That team is a partnership with the Newport Aquatic Center, who also is supporting this event.

Participants will paddle in 6-person canoes and experience paddling one-person canoes equipped with Makapo's COOP remote control device.  The device allows a blind paddler to compete amongst sighted paddlers by having a sighted coach steer the canoe through the race course.
