Whether you were an athlete when you were a kid or if you've never played a sport in your life, our adult programs will help you reach your fitness goals.
Makapo's programs at the Newport Aquatic Center offer adults 18 and over a wide range of outdoor recreation options. Centered around the sport of outrigger paddling, adults with disabilities of any fitness level and paddling experience are welcome. For more information, please

Makapo's longest running program, the team was formed in 2006 and is the world's only inclusive outrigger team for paddlers who are blind or who have low vision. The team competes in races sanctioned by the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association (SCORA), as well as races in the East Coast and Hawaii, alongside sighted crews with no special accommodations or adaptations.

Our Rec Program welcomes adults 18 years and older with a disability. This inclusive program is designed for those looking to get outdoors and on the water in a team oriented activity. The program meets weekly and is also welcome to family and fires who want to add to the inclusive nature of our program. Groups from local day programs and service organizations are also welcome to set up custom-tailored programs.
